In December, Mary Jean Tully, Founder and CEO of Tully Luxury Travel, proudly supported Giants of Africa, the not-for-profit co-founded by Toronto Raptors president, Masai Ujiri, with the purchase of an exclusive and unique work of art. The painting titled “Madiba” by artist Ajiri Ujiri, was showcased at the annual Giants of Africa fundraiser, “Mandela 100”, celebrating the legacy of Nelson Mandela.
Mary Jean Tully & Ajiri Ujiri – December 2018. (CNW Group/Tully Luxury Travel)As 2018 would have marked Mandela’s 100th birthday, Tully was honoured to celebrate the icon’s profound international impact. “Madiba represents the celebration of Nelson Mandela’s life and accomplishments. Having met Mandela twice while travelling through South Africa, I was immediately drawn to the artist’s ability to portray his gentle, kind yet ardent characteristics,” explains Tully.
Hand-delivered to the Tully Luxury Travel office by the artist himself, the piece honours Mandela’s fight against racism and apartheid through its use of bold colours and abstract shape of the South African flag with a triumphant form of Mandela rising out of the frame.
A devoted philanthropist, Tully is passionate about Africa and actively supports various causes to raise awareness for positive change, globally.
