Exploring Historic Eastern Canada and New England

By Tully Luxury Travel | 11-28-2023 |

Cruise Canada New England New York Quebec City

It’s a part of the world that’s always been in the back of your mind – so close, really, you could touch it. Eastern Canada and the New England states are a world unto their own, a quiet, leisurely combo of maritime adventure just waiting to be added to your calendar.

Silversea has the answer, with 10- and 12-day sailings between New York or Boston and Québec City, running in both directions on the venerable Silver Shadow. From mid-June to mid-August, Silversea’s summer itineraries will whisk you away to dozens of interesting ports of call, along with just 392 guests – and an industry-leading 302 crew to look after your every whim.

Once known as New France, up until the mid-1700s, Québec City on the banks of the St. Lawrence River is one of the oldest cities in North America, it’s 400-year-old ramparts rivaling San Juan for longevity. The rich history and gorgeous architecture are bested only by the fabulous food. Visitors stroll the boardwalk, ride the funicular linking the upper and lower parts of town, ponder the boutiques of Quartier Petit Champlain and taste their way through the market stalls of Marché du Vieux-Port.

The historic charms of Québec flow to the fjords of Saguenay and on to the national parks of the Gaspé Peninsula, the tides of the Bay of Fundy and cosmopolitan Halifax. Eastern Canada brings one natural delight after another – sandy beaches, scenic bays, rocky cliffs – not to mention unique port cities, laying bare their urban highlights and historic lore. The Gulf of St. Lawrence is the world’s largest estuary, once filled with much simpler vessels than the Silver Shadow, with a mix of French, Acadian and First Nations maritime history.

The birthplace of America is next – New England, with its trove of seafaring heritage, great food and pastoral prettiness. Boston’s iconic Freedom Trail and the storied mansions of Newport take you back to a simpler time of new beginnings, while delivering an extremely interesting present.

These east coast regions set you up for the urban surge that is New York, with all its glamorous glory. What more is there to say about this iconic town? This is your chance to have its imprint etched into your mind. The landmarks, the theaters, the shopping! The Met, Guggenheim and MoMA deliver internationally renowned art. One World Trade Center, Hudson Yards, the Empire State Building and the Statue of Liberty are icons that bridge the past with the present. And the retail fever will take you firmly within its grip for block after block.

The nice thing about these Silversea itineraries is the variety; if you think all these spots are the same, think again. You will experience authentic divergence, historic intrigue, environments breathtaking in their natural simplicity and welcoming people who will absolutely make your holiday.

While the Silver Shadow is indeed lovely, off-ship experiences – in some places more than a half dozen! – get you out into the heart of the landscape, with activities for every mobility level. Experience a multitude of regional boat and food tours, hiking and kayaking, whale watching and harbor tours, scenic drives, heritage tours and maritime tales.

As for the Silver Shadow, it has the highest space-to-guest ratio at sea, full stop. Comfortable suites and surroundings are augmented by modern international cuisine, and an old-style approach to service – including proper tea at 4 p.m. sharp.

The Tully Travel Designers can easily write this luxury cruise into your travel agenda in ink. All you have to do is say yes to all-included food and beverages (including wine and premium spirits), butler service and shore excursions. Door-to-door pricing, which includes private executive transfers, is also available to help make your trip to Eastern Canada and the New England States even more effortless.
